Ingredients

  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) white cake mix
  • 1 and 1/4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large egg whites
  • 1 container (16 ounces) vanilla frosting
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries


Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and egg whites. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds. Increase speed to medium and beat for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
  3. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  4. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Once the cake is completely cool, place it on a serving platter.
  7. Spread the vanilla frosting evenly over the top of the cake.
  8. Arrange the sliced strawberries in horizontal rows across the cake to create the red stripes of the flag.
  9. Place the blueberries in the upper left corner of the cake to represent the stars.
  10. Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.

  • Ensure the cake is completely cool before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • You can use any white cake mix you prefer.
