This Cheesy Tuna Noodle Casserole is the ultimate comfort food, blending tender egg noodles with creamy tuna, vegetables, and a crunchy crumb topping. It’s a classic, budget-friendly dish perfect for a cozy meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces egg noodles
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 (5 ounce) cans tuna, drained and flaked
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, plus more for topping
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the egg noodles according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  3. While the noodles cook, melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the frozen peas, condensed cream of mushroom soup, and milk. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture is smooth and heated through.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat. Gently fold in the drained tuna, cooked egg noodles, and 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the casserole. If desired, sprinkle a little extra shredded cheddar cheese over the breadcrumbs.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and the topping is golden brown and crispy.
  9. Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder or onion powder to the sauce.
  • You can use other types of cheese like Gruyere or Monterey Jack for a different flavor profile.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave.
