Description
Enjoy this classic Southern dessert with layers of creamy pudding, vanilla wafers, and fresh bananas. This easy, no-bake recipe is perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 (5.1 ounce) box instant vanilla pudding mix
- 3 cups cold milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 (12 ounce) box vanilla wafers
- 4 ripe bananas, sliced
- Optional: Whipped cream or meringue for topping
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk according to package directions.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Let the pudding sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
- Arrange a single layer of vanilla wafers in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish.
- Layer half of the sliced bananas over the wafers.
- Spread half of the pudding mixture over the bananas.
- Repeat the layers: a layer of wafers, the remaining bananas, and the remaining pudding.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the wafers to soften and the flavors to meld.
- Before serving, top with whipped cream or meringue, if desired.
Notes
- For best results, use ripe but not overly soft bananas.
- The longer the pudding chills, the softer the wafers will become.
- You can use sugar-free pudding and low-fat milk for a lighter version.
- This dessert is best served within 24 hours.
