  • Author: Sienna Hartwell
  • Total Time: 4 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Enjoy this classic Southern dessert with layers of creamy pudding, vanilla wafers, and fresh bananas. This easy, no-bake recipe is perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (5.1 ounce) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (12 ounce) box vanilla wafers
  • 4 ripe bananas, sliced
  • Optional: Whipped cream or meringue for topping

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk according to package directions.
  2. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Let the pudding sit for 5 minutes to thicken.
  4. Arrange a single layer of vanilla wafers in the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish.
  5. Layer half of the sliced bananas over the wafers.
  6. Spread half of the pudding mixture over the bananas.
  7. Repeat the layers: a layer of wafers, the remaining bananas, and the remaining pudding.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the wafers to soften and the flavors to meld.
  9. Before serving, top with whipped cream or meringue, if desired.

Notes

  • For best results, use ripe but not overly soft bananas.
  • The longer the pudding chills, the softer the wafers will become.
  • You can use sugar-free pudding and low-fat milk for a lighter version.
  • This dessert is best served within 24 hours.
