Description

A classic retro summer dessert featuring a salty pretzel crust, creamy filling, and sweet strawberry topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups crushed pretzels (about 1 16-ounce bag)
  • 1 1/2 sticks (3/4 cup) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 8-ounce container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 2 3-ounce packages strawberry-flavored gelatin
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 4 cups sliced fresh strawberries (about 2 pounds)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, combine crushed pretzels, melted butter, and granulated sugar. Press mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  3. Bake for 10 minutes, or until lightly golden. Let cool completely.
  4. In a large bowl, beat softened cream cheese and confectioners’ sugar until smooth. Fold in thawed whipped topping. Spread this mixture evenly over the cooled pretzel crust.
  5. In a separate bowl, dissolve strawberry gelatin in boiling water. Stir in cold water.
  6. Gently fold in sliced strawberries. Pour gelatin mixture over the cream cheese layer.
  7. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until set.
  8. Slice and serve chilled.

Notes

  • Ensure the pretzel crust is completely cool before adding the cream cheese layer.
  • Make sure the gelatin layer is set before serving.
  • Fresh strawberries work best for flavor and texture.
