- 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce or tamari
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly mashed but still with some texture.
- Stir in the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, soy sauce or tamari, smoked paprika, cumin, and black pepper. Mix well until everything is combined and the mixture holds together.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and form them into patties, about 1 inch thick.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Carefully place the patties in the skillet.
- Cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and heated through. Alternatively, you can grill the burgers on a preheated grill over medium heat for 5-7 minutes per side.
- Serve the burgers on buns with your favorite toppings.
Notes
- You can adjust the seasonings to your preference.
- If the mixture is too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs.
- If the mixture is too dry, add a splash of water or vegetable broth.
- These burgers can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
